Breaking the Cloud: The Underground Nexus Story
Share
As we close in on 10,000 pulls of Underground Nexus on Docker Hub, we’ve been thinking a lot about how far we’ve come, and where we’re headed next.
Cloud Underground started with one goal in mind – to disrupt the cloud and give people control over their own infrastructure.
Our first slogan said it all: “Disrupting the cloud, one container at a time.”
So, we’re taking a moment to look back, take stock of where we are now, and share what’s coming next. This is the story of Underground Nexus, told in three parts.
Part 1: Build Your Own Way
With limited resources and a pile of Raspberry Pis from past projects, we set out to build something different – a cloud-native platform that anyone could deploy anywhere, without the cost or complexity of traditional tools.
Cloud Built for Any Hardware
During COVID, supply chain issues hit hard. Our business at the time relied on shipping Raspberry Pis to customers, and suddenly, we couldn’t get them. That challenge pushed us to create a platform that didn’t rely on any specific hardware.
Underground Nexus can run on anything – a Pi, an old laptop, or a full server rack. It’s cloud-agnostic, deployable in air-gapped environments, and gives teams the ability to break free from vendor lock-in.
Years of Automation, So You Don't Have To
We spent two years building the Nexus by hand – configuring, testing, and refining. Now, it’s automated, self-healing, and DevSecOps-ready, saving teams the time and cost of building their infrastructure from scratch.
Most importantly, it’s for our users. With Nexus, you own your assets, your tools, and your workflow, no strings attached.
As we approach the milestone of 10,000 downloads, we’re reminded why we started. This platform isn’t just about downloads it’s about giving people real freedom to build on their own terms.
