Breaking the Cloud: The Story of Underground Nexus

Part Three: What’s next—and why the future is already here.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve been reflecting on how far we’ve come and where we’re going.
In Part One, we told the story of how Underground Nexus came to be: a platform born out of necessity, built by hand, and shaped by the desire to own our infrastructure instead of renting it.
In Part Two, we shared what Cloud Underground looks like today: a company scaling rapidly, refining the platform, and welcoming more people into the ecosystem.
Now, in this final part of the series, we want to talk about what’s next, and why right now is such an exciting moment to get involved.

Building to Evolve
Underground Nexus has always been a flexible, portable, cloud-native platform designed for people who want real control over their infrastructure. But this past week, we’ve taken a huge leap forward by making some serious updates to the Underground Nexus platform.
Since we released the Underground Nexus two and a half years ago, we've largely focused on breakfixes and patches. This is the first major update of our software platform.
Here’s what’s new with the Underground Nexus:
- Deployable, trainable AI—baked into the platform for custom use cases
- RAG packs—train your AI with custom data sets from us or your own wiki
- A custom UI builder—build your own dashboards and tools with ease
- Hypervisor integration—so you can now launch and manage full VMs, not just containers
- Reboot-resilient architecture—Nexus now automatically repairs itself on reboot
- Simplified update process—less friction, faster rollouts, cleaner workflows
- XDR-enhanced SIEM—bringing advanced detection and response capabilities into every deployment
- Pi-hole auto-repair—our ad-blocking DNS solution now self-heals
- New system logic for smart operations—Nexus knows how to run and when to recover
These improvements open the door for entirely new audiences. From small dev teams to enterprise architects and public institutions.
If you're working on software, teaching DevSecOps, building cyber ranges, or just trying to launch a secure product without getting locked into a bloated ecosystem, Underground Nexus is now more ready than ever.
What We’re Building Toward
Our mission has always been bigger than just infrastructure.
We’re here to help people break free from vendor lock-in and predatory sales models.
We believe in data autonomy for everyone.
We’re here to democratize the cloud, one container—or VM—at a time.
If that sounds like something you want to be part of, now is the time.
Help Us Reach 10,000 Downloads
We’re on the edge of a milestone: 10,000 downloads of Underground Nexus.
That number represents people who are building their own clouds, on their own terms.
If you haven’t tried a Nexus yet, this is the perfect moment. If you’ve deployed it in the past, consider updating to see just how far it’s come. And if you love what we’re doing, help us spread the word by sharing it.
We’ve come a long way. But we’re just getting started.
